About Me

Welcome!

I hope you find this site to be edifying, and that it helps you grow in your walk with the Lord. My purpose for this blog is as follows:

  • To write about Jesus Christ and all that He has accomplished by His death and resurrection
  • To provide a resource for people who have dropped out of evangelical churches that have adopted the seeker / purpose driven model.
  • Provide a defense of the faith
  • Warn of errors I have witnessed
  • Be an encouragement to struggling Christians

I was born again at the age of 27, over twenty years ago. I got involved in a teaching ministry about 7 years after my conversion, and functioned as an adult bible class teacher and small group leader in a couple of bible churches we attended. When I witnessed the seeker movement sweep through the church I spoke out against it, because of its unique doctrinal perspective, and was eventually forced out to find a new church.

In my search for a new church home, I questioned a lot of what I had been previously taught. There have been doubts and times of distress as I have felt like we were wandering in the wilderness. Thankfully God has led us to a new church, a place for us to rest and minister to the body of Christ.

My personality leads me to ask questions, be a bit of a contrarian, and to swim against the current. Consequently, I do not agree with much that passes for modern evangelicalism. I am firmly committed to orthodox Christian doctrine, and believe the rather novel idea that there is a faith delivered “once for all to the saints” that we must defend.

I believe that our firmly held doctrines must stand up under scrutiny, so I am not against investigating other doctrinal systems for the purpose of confirming or changing ideas that I hold dear. And I believe that the individual Christian, as well as the church, must be always reforming. By that I mean that we must seek to bring our own doctrine in line with God’s Word.

I left the “evangelical” church because I no longer believe that the word has any meaning. The label “evangelical” encompasses such a broad spectrum of doctrinal positions that it is has lost its usefulness. I believe in evangelism, the fundamentals of the faith, and being a faithful ambassador for Christ.

One of my strongly held views is that Christians should seek to be identified with Christ alone. Quite often men mistakenly place their allegiance in other men who have started their church, a favorite system of doctrine, or are a popular radio or television personality.

When you have been hurt by the church, either because it has taken a turn down the road of the pop-culture, it has strayed into legalism, or because the people have shunned you for not going along with the latest fad, it is easy to feel like you are the only one who is failing at the Christian life. Everyone else seems to “get it”, and you find yourself suddenly on the outside looking in. Take heart dear friend.

Having been where you are at, I can assure you that you are not crazy, and that there is hope for the future. It would be easy to give up on being part of the church, but I urge you not to do that. There is hope, and that hope is found in God and His faithfulness. He is true to His word, and will do everything that He has promised. The body of Christ needs you!

The danger of falling into a trap is very real when you are without a church home. Small churches everywhere have shunned the seeker movement only to embrace the other extreme - legalism. This is a time when you have to be on your guard against false teaching and men must take the role of leadership as the spiritual head of the family.

So my purpose in writing here is to preach Christ, defend the faith, warn against errors I have seen, and be an encouragement to continue in the faith. If you are not a Christian, I would be glad to share the good news of Jesus Christ with you, but I will not argue. I will also not argue with those that want to beat the drum of their pet doctrine, their heresy, or promote their favorite teacher. I expect all discussions to be civil, and humor is most welcomed. Profanity will not be tolerated.

Whatever you read here, please be sure to compare it against the Word of God. As a wise soul once said, I am just one beggar telling another where to find bread.

    Peace!
